Coconut Grove's November Runs Along the Bay While the Village Puts Up Its Lights

Most of Coconut Grove's dated November events fall between Friday, Nov. 13 and Sunday, Nov. 22, and almost all of them sit along the water, from The Barnacle on Main Highway to The Hangar at Regatta Harbour and the bay off Coconut Grove Sailing Club. The village center is running on a different schedule. On Commodore Plaza, Main Highway and Fuller Street, November is a month of installation. Crews are putting up new year-round lighting, flower beds are due to be replanted, and a group of new shops and restaurants is settling in before December. The bayfront has its busy days now, and the village is getting ready for later.

The ten days that hold the month

Sun., Nov. 22 CGSC Dinghy Fall Series #6 Coconut Grove Sailing Club No cost listed

Outside that window, the dated bayfront calendar for November is mostly empty. The two weekends are also different from each other. The first one mixes several kinds of events in one compact area. The second one puts two very different crowds within sight of each other, one indoors at The Hangar and one out on the bay.

The first weekend covers three venues in three days

Friday, Nov. 13 has two events. The Coconut Grove Jewelry & Watch Show opens at The Hangar at 11 a.m. and runs until 7 p.m. Saturday has the same hours, and Sunday closes at 5 p.m. The show brings in dealers of antique, vintage and estate jewelry and watches. According to the organizers, visitors can expect signed pieces from Rolex, Patek Philippe, David Webb, Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier and Bulgari, along with unsigned period pieces. Buying ahead saves money. A three-day ticket costs $25 online through Nov. 12, compared with $40 at the door. The Thursday evening VIP preview costs another $200 and includes a cocktail reception and early access to the floor.

That same night, The Barnacle Society hosts The 18 Wheelers Moonlight Concert on the grounds of The Barnacle Historic State Park. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7. Picnics and BYOB are welcome, and pets are not allowed. Tickets start at $10.

Pets come back the next morning. The Holiday Barkzaar, presented by Equipaws Pet Services and The Barnacle Society, runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14 on the same lawn. It has local vendors, live music, dog activities, Santa Paws photos, and costume and trick contests. Admission is $7, and children 5 and under get in free. Proceeds go to Paw Patrol Animal Rescue and the park. It is the earliest holiday-themed event on the Grove's November calendar, so it will likely be many people's first holiday market of the season.

On Sunday, Nov. 15, Coconut Grove Sailing Club runs the fifth race day of its Dinghy Fall Series.

The second weekend puts a first-ever public show next to a championship

The COUTURE Coconut Grove show from Nov. 20 to 22 may be the most significant new event of the month. The organizers say this is the first time in COUTURE's 31-year history that the event has been open to the public. It focuses on contemporary designer fine jewelry rather than estate pieces, with brands such as Spinelli Kilcolin, Bayco, Buddha Mama, Jade Trau and Sevan Bıçakçı. The organizers describe it as a chance to meet the designers in person. The Coconut Grove BID calendar shows an 11 a.m. start each day. Ticket prices match the earlier show: $25 online through Nov. 20 and $40 at the door.

Because the two shows run on back-to-back weekends in the same hangar, The Hangar will host jewelry events for most of the ten days. The first weekend is about pieces with a history, and the second is about current collections presented by the people who designed them.

Out on the water that same weekend, Coconut Grove Sailing Club hosts the Finn Class North American Championship. Racing runs Nov. 20 through 22 on Biscayne Bay about 1.5 nautical miles southeast of the club, with the first warning signal at noon each day. The club's sixth Dinghy Fall Series race follows on Sunday, Nov. 22. If you are already near Dinner Key that weekend, the fleet will be racing offshore during the afternoon.

The village center is working on a later date

A few blocks inland, the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District is busy with physical work instead of events. According to the BID's Oct. 20 operations update, crews are installing new year-round streetscape lighting on Commodore Plaza, Main Highway, and parts of Grand Avenue and Fuller Street. The work is meant to have the district lit for the holiday season and to keep the lights up well into the new year. Fuller Street is also getting new barricades at both ends and 3-by-10 planters. Commodore Plaza's flower beds are next. They will be replanted with Green Island Ficus, a compact shrub that the BID picked because it handles heat, salt air and drought.

The BID has not announced a date for switching on the new lights, and no 2026 tree-lighting date had been posted for the village in late October. For now, the date of the holiday season's official start in the village is still open.

The storefronts are moving faster than the streetscape work. Several newer addresses are already open and fit easily into a month that otherwise centers on the bay:

  • MERLAU, 3162 Commodore Plaza, Suite 1A. This multi-brand shop gives small, emerging labels their first permanent retail space. It does not carry wholesale or vintage goods, with one exception for a single watch brand. The owners told the BID that about 95 percent of the store is priced under $200 per item. It is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is closed Mondays.
  • Susan Blake Jewelry, 3111 Commodore Plaza. The shop opens daily, and its BID profile said an opening party was planned for the last weekend of September.
  • Manoli, 3540 Main Hwy. This Greek restaurant opened on July 22, according to Miami New Times. It is led by chef Emmanouil "Manoli" Aslanoglou and serves shared plates such as dolmades, saganaki, and crispy feta wrapped in phyllo with thyme honey. It shares the block with Taurus and the Michelin-starred Ariete.
  • Magie Wine Bar + Imperial Moto, also at 3540 Main Hwy. During the day, it serves coffee, matcha, croissants and cookies, according to Edible South Florida.
  • Grand Public Kitchen + Bar, at CocoWalk, 3015 Grand Ave. It is listed as now open.
  • Miami Slice, 2996 McFarlane Rd. It opened on Aug. 12, as reported by Miami New Times.

Across McFarlane Road, Levain Bakery at 2979 McFarlane Rd. is still listed as coming soon. Miami New Times' fall preview gave only "this fall" as its opening window. On the water side of the neighborhood, Gioia Hospitality Group's Italian restaurant La Sponda opened on Sept. 19 at Vita at Grove Isle, according to Haute Living.

Jewelry also connects the village to the bay this month. Commodore Plaza has added a dedicated jewelry shop, MERLAU carries jewelry from small designers, and The Hangar is hosting jewelry shows on consecutive weekends. Anyone shopping for gifts can see estate pieces, current designer collections and emerging labels within a short drive of each other.

Saturdays outside the busy window

The Saturdays that bracket the busy stretch belong to the Coconut Grove Organic Farmers Market, at the corner of Grand Avenue and Margaret Street, 3300 Grand Ave. Its season opened Oct. 31 and runs every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. through Jan. 30, 2027.

That gives the month a simple order:

  1. Saturday, Nov. 7. Spend the day in the village. Visit the market on Grand Avenue, walk to Commodore Plaza, and see how far the lighting work has progressed.
  2. Nov. 13 to 15. Visit the estate jewelry show at The Hangar, attend a moonlight concert and the Barkzaar at The Barnacle, and catch Sunday dinghy racing.
  3. Nov. 20 to 22. See COUTURE's first public show indoors while the Finn championship races on the bay.
  4. Saturday, Nov. 28. Head back inland for the market and the new Main Highway restaurants before the holiday calendar in the village is announced.
